Anyone else finding NewPipe version 0.27.0 stopped working yesterday?
UPDATE:

It was confirmed on XDA that there's something up, but there's no mention
on the Newpipe.net site so we'll just have to wait until it gets resolved.

Of course, anyone can watch YouTube (mostly news & documentaries for me)
with a web browser but that's a stinky solution designed for people who
aren't technical and who therefore use a web browser for everything.

I barely use a web browser on a phone. Maybe once a month or so.
Instead, I use dedicated clients for things that people use browsers for.

Since I long ago deleted the YouTube client from my phone (along with all
the Google canonical apps), I employed NewPipe as my YouTube client clone.

I can still watch videos for free without ads though.
It just takes an extra step or two while NewPipe is being fixed.

1. I find any desired video URI using NewPipe <https://newpipe.net>
(NewPipe just won't play the video, nor will it download it.)
2. I paste the URI into Seal <https://github.com/JunkFood02/Seal>
(which uses the youtube-dl tools to download the video)
3. I watch the video using any number of video apps on Android.

For example, I can play it using the FOSS mpv-android video player:
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=is.xyz.mpv>

Please let me know if someone else has a better solution for now.
This way we help each other - which is the whole point of this newsgroup.

Youtube put in anti-bot measures. They're seeing what can done:

Thanks for helping out as most people on this newsgroup don't know how to
use the best FOSS apps out there, of which NewPipe is definitely a keeper!

I've been running into the bot problems on YouTube as I keep abreast of
US/Ukraine/NATO/Russia world news, and the bots have been killing the
Ukraine news reporting and military reporting channels for months now.

Thanks for that link where I'm already up & running on the debug version.

I asked yesterday on the NewPipe XDA thread and this debug version for
0.27.0 popped up this morning, which, so far, seems to be working fine.

Other sugestions are YouTube Vanced, Revanced, and Smart Tube, but I prefer
NewPipe overall as it's definitely in the top ten FOSS Android apps to use!

Thanks for that new information - which I see was only done recently.

Name: 20240712_fixed_NewPipe_v0.27.1.apk

GitHub seems to also have the newer version, published 16 hours ago.
https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases/
https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases/download/v0.27.1/NewPipe_v0.27.1.apk

Note that F-Droid appears to still have the older 0.27.0 version.
https://f-droid.org/packages/org.schabi.newpipe/
https://f-droid.org/repo/org.schabi.newpipe_997.apk

It worked for me, so both the 0.27.1 & 0.27.0 debug versions work.
Thanks for that recent update (which isn't in the XDA thread yet).

Try pipepipe?

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/InfinityLoop1309.NewPipeEnhanced/

I switched from newpipe, and it seems OK. Only problem I've
encountered are occasional playback stops when switching
networks. Gives a network error, so as best I can tell it involves a
rough hand off from one network to another. For me, mostly on wifi, or
wifi to cellular. My solution so far is to switch to celluar network
before starting.

Interesting this PipePipe enhanced NewPipe enhanced YouTube client APK.
<https://github.com/InfinityLoop1308/PipePipe>
I'm using NewPipe 0.27.2 which has that same issue if you change networks,
it crashes but it recovers pretty quickly with a kill and restart step.

I installed PipPipe 3.7.0 from F-Droid and upon first inspection it looks
exactly like NewPipe does, even down to the icons and color schemes.

Thanks for letting me know about this app, which, if it works at least as
well as NewPipe does to replace the YouTube client, then it's a keeper!

You're welcome. So far, so good. I ran in to a weirdness where
everything I tried playing reported a "content not available" or
something like that. I quit & restarted the app and it behaved
correctly.

*shrugs*

I don't know anything about the status of NewPipe, but ReVanced Extended
19.07.40 still works fine here, even though it is already not that new
any longer.

Thanks for the suggestion, where it's nice to know there are people who
know about these FOSS apps which replace, one by one, Google functionality.

<https://xdaforums.com/t/newpipe-the-lightweight-youtube-experience-for-android.3986969/post-89605377>

These are ~1:1 alternatives to NewPipe's YouTube clone functionality:

YouTube Vanced (revanced, devanced, etc.)
<https://xdaforums.com/t/guide-how-to-install-youtube-vanced-post-shutdown-22-03-22.4419609/>
<https://xdaforums.com/t/app-guides-unofficial-revanced-megathread.4523967/>

Smart Tube was said by one correspondent to be similar to that in function:
<https://smarttubeapp.github.io/>

Me?
I usually resort to Seal to download & play until NewPipe comes back up.

UPDATE:

A couple days after Google implemented login requirements to block bots,
the NewPipe team introduced 0.27.1 which worked fine until a few days ago.
<https://newpipe.net/#download>

Then for a day or two NewPipe stopped in the middle of a video, where I
noticed a couple of days ago version 0.27.2 was available for download.
<https://archive.newpipe.net/fdroid/repo/NewPipe_v0.27.2.apk>

That version has been working fine for me.
